Award for best video about sustainable development - World Forum 2011

ISA Students in 2nd year of the international Master’s program (Sustainable Food Manufacturing...

ISA Students in 2nd year of the international Master’s program (Sustainable Food Manufacturing Management) together with 5th year Engineering students specializing in quality, safety and environmental management have created a video on the topic of sustainable development (more particularly on “the different facets of the values of a company”). This video was the first project of the semester for this group of 23 students coming from not less than 10 different countries (India, France, Afghanistan, Thailand, Yemen, Vietnam, Fiji Islands, Cameroun, Reunion Island, Spain). To create this video, they’ve worked altogether, shared out their knowledge about good practices from companies where they have done an internship, built up a fictive idealistic but realistic company, then done some creativity activities to imagine the story of this company. All this has been catalyzed within the ISA co-design center. The big challenge was then to put all this into a movie. Stepping back they’ve thought of drawings… tactile screens… the story they had all together imagine… They’ve confronted their first video to the point of view of 1st year Students from the Master’s program… And then MESSTEA was born, with its final motto: “use nature, help nature”. The story of MESSTEA has seduced the World Forum Jury who granted this nice collaborative work with the best video award for the video contest they had organized on this topic. Congratulations to the Students’ team! And thank you to the teachers who also guided them: Mr. Simonnin and Mr. Douglas.

The 13th installment of the
took place in Pau (South of France) from May 26th to June 11th 2011. It was coordinated by Dr Bertrand Pourrut, Professor in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Sciences at ISA.

43 students (selected from 120 applications!) from 15 European partner universities spent 3 weeks in Pau to attend this program of lectures and field trips related to Pollution in Europe.
The growing success of this program consolidates the idea that this could be the first step towards a new English-taught International MSc program in Environmental Sciences offered at ISA. It would be a great opportunity to fill in a large international demand in terms of specialization and to promote the work of ISA’s Soils and Environment research team.
The project is still at an early stage, but could lead to a new international program in environmental sciences in September 2012. To be continued…

Research at ISA

Results and perspectives

Research at ISA Group is a strong element of the institute’s evolution. Research is essential to ensure a high level scientific training, to ensure the durability of the institute and its international development.
Here is a brief assessment of the action led in 2009-2010 and an opening on the perspectives and research themes for the future years in the different research centers.
First of all, our research professors participated and presented their works in many conferences in France and abroad, in Italy (Florence, Bologna, Orvieto), Poland, England, Canada, Thailand, etc.
One of the big moments of this year was the FESIA conference on « The future of the dairy territories », national day of meetings between scientists and professionals in Paris.
The goal was to present the results of 4 years of work following the call for FESIA project and the execution of 4 research projects led by teams: “Future of low dairy density areas, « Territories and dairy restructuring », « What happens after quotas ? » and « Breeder, a trade/career in question ».
ISA Group’s research professors also led field missions within research projects in Morocco and in Australia. Finally, let’s note that honors were given to Benoît Hubert and Joop Lensink., etc.
Regarding perspectives, many projects are about to start.
In the same approach as the “Dynamic of the dairy Territories” program that is now completed, a new call for FESIA project has been made on the theme: “Conception and Evaluation of high environmental performances agricultural systems”.
As of today, the letters of intent have been submitted by the research teams and the leading committee will make its choice. The restitution day will be in 2013 or 2014.
To be continued.

They started in the Burdekin Basin region (13 deposits and cuts), then in the Broken River region (14 cuts and outcrops). In total, more than 350 kg of samples have been shipped from Townsville and should arrive in France soon. And now? making a fair copy of the numerous field notes and observations, making an inventory, listing and numbering all the samples, defining study priorities in order to publish (from Fossil Cnidaria in Liege in 2011), and finally specifying the goals and focus points for the next field missions.
